The repairman is coming to repair your washing machine, you would like to know how much it will cost.

The answer has to be yes in both cases.

Okay in a perfect world, a given price over the phone would be ideal. It’s not a perfect world, so it would be safe to inspect the problem first.

Once the inspection has been completed it is safe for me to give you a fixed price.  

Not an estimate, not a guess, not a couple of hours, or maybe more.
