John T Carroll aka "John the Englishman" Founder and owner of SOS Home Renovations, my thoughts on the above Cliches.
Value for money! Great work ethics! Friendly service! Competitive pricing! Senior discounts! Free estimates!
Value for money:- You need some work doing and I need to do some work, there has to be a compromise were we both want the best we can get. Therefore I have to work out all the little costs of the job and then make a profit to pay my bills, you on the other hand know how much you want to pay for the work done. Now if we both agree on a price the work gets done and we are both happy.
Great work ethics:- For me this is the most important part of any job, I am proud to be a part of any project, I love my job, I look forward to the challenge,
I feel a need to do the best that I can and more than anything I want you to be happy with my work.
Friendly service:- Okay first things first, I am by nature a very happy chappy, I smile a lot, laugh a lot, love to have a bit of fun but take my job seriously.
I like to make friends with each and every customer I meet, I want for you to want me to work for you, not just because you need work doing but because the person doing the work is happy to do the work and not just because he is getting paid.
Competitive pricing:- Nothing to do with what the other contractor is bidding, his bid may be lower than mine but what is he offering? I know how much I need to charge to complete the project to my high standards. I will not under bid a job just to get work, there is fine line between doing a job and finishing a job to everyone's satisfaction, mine included. I need to make a living, but I want to do the best that I can and have enough money in the job to do it right.
Senior discounts:- These are the people I have the most respect for, they have been there and done that and for most of then the T-shirt comes free. I am more than happy to offer a discount to seniors. And I will tell you why, with out them most of us would not be here today. In their day they had to work hard to bring up their family's, they understand the concept of hard work and know the true value of money. On a pension every little helps and I try to help a little.
Free estimates:- The bane of every contractors live, every one offers free estimates because they have to do. If every one said no more free estimates then every customer would have to pay for an estimate. It costs us money to give a free estimate and most of the time many hours of unpaid work.
I never give a ball park figure to anyone, I will spend time looking at the job, work out what is needed, sometimes this will include drawings and plans to come to a price. This is were Value for money, competitive pricing, great work ethics comes into its own. It all makes for a good estimate.
